Upcoming Review – Yokomo MR4 Drift Chassis

Almost every RC drifter will have heard of the the MR4 chassis from Yokomo, and as it’s belt driven some will prefer to a Shafty like the Tamiya TT-01.

However, the purpose of getting this chassis is to make an almost direct comparison with Belt Drive and Shaft Driven – what are the advantages and disadvantages of each and how much do they cost to run are some questions you’ll find answered.

In order to do this, both cars will be set up with exactly the same component and final gearing (time for a calculator….) and then tested side by side whilst being filmed – in true battle drift style! I’ll then post the results up with pics and videos

Just as a side note, the Yokomo MR4 was bought for £35 ( $65) off eBay and comes with a new RX7 body shell, motor and servo – that’s a cheap entry point to drifting!

Here’s some pics of what’s on it’s way;

BMW M3 Schnitzer Sport Evo – drift favourite lost and found

This is another body that can be tricky to find on it’s own.  Having searched eBay there are just a bunch of smashed up shells, and the internet searches just come up with complete kits………until now.

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT IF YOU ARE AFTER THIS SHELL! I will get in touch with one of my contacts and get them to order some in, they will be cheap!

Morfars in Denmark have it!  It’s displayed in it’s original Schnitzer paint job, but below are some pics why it’s a drifters dream……

So there’s your inspiration and here’s where you can buy it, literally the only place on the internet!

ABC Hobby Muffler Set

This set is a great addition to add some realism and finishing touch to your Drift car.

ABC make some truly awesome bodyshells in general, but I was really impressed with this set.  Not only does it come with 4 types of exhuast with adjustable fixing mount, but also wiper blades AND a number plate set with lots of Japanese characters.  It’s great value as well, but the quality of plastic is excellent and really has a nice authentic chrome look to it.

Here’s some pics of how it can look on a Tamiya R34 bodyshell

As you’ll see in the pic of the set you can choose either a Chrome or Black set, if you’d prefer a brushed steel or anything look the black set is ready for primer and then your imagination…… rusty version on an old car perhaps!?

Have a look at their other shells whilst you’re there, you’ll end up staring at the details I’m sure!

HPI Racing True Ten – Classic Datsun 510 update

This bodyshell from HPI is a sure fire hit with Drifters.  It’s old school, and that means flared wheel arches with some crazy off set wheels to complete the look.

Here’s the code and description to help your search;

Let me know if you’ve got this shell on your Drift car and post it in the Gallery  section.

The other shells in the True Ten series are shown above as well, and these are;

The chassis itself looks awesome, as it looks like you can change the camber angles.  I haven’t found a proper test review yet, and I’m not going to cut ‘n’ paste from HPI’s website – that’s just lazy.  I will hunt one down and get it tested myself if I can!

More info at;

If you want just this bodyshell on it’s own, it is available, however you will need to mod your car unless you’re already running with a 1/10 mini car (ABC Hobby, HPI etc…) more details as you keep reading.

For the chassis conversion, if you have a Tamiya TT-01 and REALLY want this shell, you’ll need the TT-01 to MA-03 conversion set. It’s a 3Racing Conversion so you can be sure it’s a good quality one.
